Chalice

Beautiful chalice with silver cup.
Tassilo chalice ht. (7 ³/₃₂” – 19 cm), cont. (209⁄32 oz..60 cl), with solid silver inner cup. After an original from the era of the Duke Tassilo of Bavaria (8th cent.), before the Carolingian Renaissance. The original chalice was made during the reign of Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria (741 to 800), the chalice made in 742. The cup has the “Majestes Domini”, The Savior together with the four evangelists (figures). The text on the base is TASILLO DUX FORTIS LIVTPIRC VIRGAREGAUS.
#9231 Matching paten is diameter 7″ = 18 cm, in solid silver (925%), gold-plated; contents in hosts diameter 3 cm = 1 ³/₁₆”: 30 normal hosts or 20 thicker (bread) hosts.
