From the Publisher: Why the replacement of the NCB for the NABRE?
The introduction of the complete New Catholic Bible (NCB) translation is the logical progression after having introduced the NCV Psalms in place of the NAB Psalms in 2002 and the NCV New Testament in place of the NABRE New Testament in 2015.
The full NCB is the culmination of over three decades of translation scholarship. The decision to introduce the Giant Print Edition was very intentional. We launched the complete Bible with the needs of the aging population and those with limited vision in mind, since we consistently have received comments about such needs from the faithful wishing to read the Word of God.
Regarding the motivations to produce this translation, a significant one is that people in other English-speaking countries told us that they have been reluctant to embrace a translation with the word “American” in its name because it appears to be exclusive to an American audience; therefore, we wished to be mindful of, and responsive to, that often-repeated observation.
Furthermore, we endeavored to produce a text that was faithful and accurate, yet in language that is accessible to the people in the pew, so to speak. In conjunction with that goal, we sought to provide explanatory notes that are understandable, pastoral, and meaningful. Some may find that the notes are the greatest strength of the translation. In fact, most of the feedback we have received concerning the NCV Psalms and New Testament concerns the quality and richness of the explanatory notes.
Bringing the Word of God to people’s homes and hearts should be the goal of any Bible translation.
